History 1973 to present |
In November 1972 the department purchased a 1963 International truck with a 3,000 gallon tank on it from the City of Springfield, Ohio for $4,000. It was equipped with a 2 1/2" valve for filling and dumping and a 150 gallon per minute portable pump to aid in dumping water. This truck was upgraded in the mid 1980's with a 6" butterfly valve for quicker water dumps. This truck replaced the 1950 Ford Tanker and became known as Car #3 also known as “Big Red”. Later was called Tanker #3 and was in service from 1973 until 1992. The truck was then sold locally for conversion into a grain truck.
