History 1973 to present |
In December 1990 the department voted to purchase a 1990 International Pumper from W.S. Darley Co. for a total cost of $103,119. Since the department stopped allowing firemen to ride on the back of the trucks this would be our first multi seat cab in the department. The truck was drove home in October 1991 and placed in service in early 1992. The truck featured a 1,000 gallon per minute 2 stage Champion pump and a 1,250 gallon booster tank. Other features include seating for 5 with 4 SCBA’s in the cab, 2 1 ¾” crosslays one 150’ & the other 200’, 1 100’ 2 ½” crosslay, a 2,000 gallon dump-and-go tank, 2 10’ section of 5” suction hose, 1,000’ of 4” stortz hose, 500’ of 2 ½” hose, 150’ of 1 ¾” hose, and 100’ of 1 ¾” trash line, 36’ Extension ladders, 14’ roof ladder, folding ladder, 17’ Little Giant ladder, and a foam Pro-Pak. This truck is the second engine out on all of our structure fires and alarm drops and the primary engine on all mutual aid runs along with the tanker. It also responds with the grass truck on all grass fires. In 2010 when the new Engine 1 went into service this truck did not respond on accidents and vehicle fires any more, but continued to respond on all other runs as before. Some of the major runs this truck has responded to are the Masonic Lodge which included the grocery store in Christiansburg in 1992, the Miami County Fair Ground Flood in 1995, Thackery Elevator Explosion in 2008, and many, many mutual aid house and barn fires where it set up water supply at the road and supplied water to another engine at the scene. This truck replaced the 1963 GMC “Jimmy” and continued to be known as Engine 2 and is still in service today.
